Privacy Policy
Last updated: 19 September 2026
This policy describes how Shumal (“we”, “us”) handles information when you use shumal.com, create a business account, or use Shumal POS on iPhone, iPad, Apple Silicon Mac, Android, Windows, or macOS.
Who this covers
Shumal is business software for running a point of sale. It is not a consumer social network, and it is not directed at children. The operator of the service can be reached at hello@shumal.com.
Information we collect
Account and business details
When you create a business on the website or sign in to POS, we collect the information you submit: business type, business name, email address, password, optional brand name and description, and a logo image. Passwords are used only to authenticate your account.
Point-of-sale operations
Shumal POS stores the business records you create while selling: products, prices, categories, tables, orders, payments, receipts, customers, staff, inventory, and related operational data. That data is saved on the device first, then synchronized with Shumal servers so the same business can be used across registers when a connection is available.
Website visits
The marketing site stores your theme preference (light or dark) in the browser. Our servers may keep ordinary request logs such as IP address, browser type, and the page requested, to operate and protect the site. We do not use advertising pixels or sell browsing profiles.
Device permissions in the apps
Shumal POS may ask for optional device access that you control:
- Camera — to photograph products or menu items for your catalogue.
- Photo library — to choose existing images for products or menu items.
- Location while the app is open — to help detect local network conditions for printers and synchronization. We do not use location to advertise to you or to track you in the background.
- Local network / printers — to print receipts on printers you configure.
You can refuse these permissions. Core checkout still works without camera or photos.
How we use information
- Provide, maintain, and improve Shumal POS and the website
- Authenticate users and protect accounts
- Sync business data you entered so registers stay consistent
- Deliver app updates, including signed Dart patches through Shorebird
- Respond to support requests sent to us
- Meet legal, tax, or security obligations when required
We do not sell your information. We do not use it for third-party advertising. We do not show ads in Shumal POS.
Where data is stored
POS records are stored locally on the device (including SQLite) so selling can continue if the internet is down. Copies that need to sync are sent to Shumal’s API hosts (for example api.shumal.com). Apple, Google, and Microsoft may process install and update metadata when you download the app from their stores. Shorebird processes the minimum data needed to deliver an update to an already installed version.
Sharing
We share information only:
- With infrastructure providers that host the Shumal API and this website, under contract
- With app stores and update services as needed to distribute the app
- If you ask us to, or if the law requires it
- If the business that owns the Shumal account grants staff access inside that account
Other merchants on Shumal cannot see your catalogue, sales, or customers.
Retention
We keep account and operational data while the business uses Shumal and for a reasonable period afterward as needed for backups, disputes, or legal requirements. Local data remains on a device until that app is uninstalled or the data is cleared.
Your choices
You can update business details in the product, revoke camera, photos, or location in system settings, and request access or deletion of account data by emailing hello@shumal.com. Some records (for example completed sales) may need to be kept for accounting or legal reasons.
Children
Shumal is a business POS. It is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
We may update this page when the product changes. The date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of Shumal after an update means you accept the revised policy.
